Every program interprets the conversion differently, so the part can come out at a completely different size than you designed. It is the number one cause of parts that end up too big or too small. Set the document in millimeters from the start.

An outline that does not close on itself. When cutting, it leaves a bridge of material and the part never releases from the sheet. Sometimes it is intentional (engrave or fold lines), but if you expected a loose part, it is a mistake.

The machine does not know they are the same: it cuts twice along the exact same line. That burns and widens the edge, doubles the time and on thin materials can even start a fire. It happens constantly when copy-pasting or merging files.

The most widespread convention is pure red (RGB 255,0,0) to cut and blue or black to engrave. What matters is being consistent and using few colors: each color maps to a different operation in the machine software.

Yes. The same checks apply to vinyl cutting and die-cutting: outlined text, closed paths, real dimensions and no duplicates. Only the maximum work area changes.
