Cut lines separate the material and are drawn in red. Fold lines mark where it bends, are drawn dashed blue, and on carton they are creased rather than cut. Downloads keep both on separate layers so the shop can process them differently.

Kerf is the width of material the laser removes while cutting, usually 0.10–0.25 mm. Without compensation the fingers come out thinner and the slots wider than designed, so the box ends up loose. This tool widens fingers and narrows slots by exactly the right amount for a press fit.

Cut a 20 mm test square and measure it with calipers: the difference between design and result is the kerf. As a reference, a 40–60 W CO₂ laser leaves 0.10–0.20 mm on 3 mm MDF, and slightly more on acrylic.

Yes, as long as it is a flat sheet of uniform thickness: MDF, acrylic, plywood, chipboard or corrugated cardboard. The only thing that changes between materials is the kerf, usually slightly larger on acrylic than on MDF.

Almost always the outer versus inner dimension difference. If something 10 cm wide has to fit, pick "inner" and enter 100 mm: the tool adds the wall thickness for you.
